This week I continued creating promotional content centered around Salisbury while also taking an important step toward my long-form documentary project at the Charles H. Chipman Cultural Center. Prior to filming, I met with the Center's staff for a meet-and-greet to establish rapport, discuss the overall vision for the project, and gain a better understanding of the Center's history and mission.
During my visit, I was given a guided tour of the facility, exploring each floor and learning about the exhibits, artifacts, and spaces that make the Center an important cultural landmark. The tour also allowed me to begin planning the visual direction of the documentary by identifying potential interview locations, B-roll opportunities, and framing ideas. Additionally, I met the individuals who will be featured in the interview, which helped me become more comfortable with the subjects and better prepare thoughtful questions ahead of production. This experience provided valuable insight into the planning process that takes place before filming and reinforced the importance of research, pre-production, and building relationships with interview subjects in order to create a more authentic and engaging final product.
